Norwalk, Connecticut will be installing energy efficient lighting fixtures thanks to the Connecticut Commercial and Industrial Property Assessed Clean Energy (C-PACE) program. The program helps business and building owners finance energy efficient projects. No upfront costs and repayment of the loan through property tax bills are also encouraging the switch to energy efficiency among the city’s businesses.
“Through the use of innovative financing tools like C-PACE, we can make energy cleaner, cheaper, and more reliable,” said Governor Dannel Malloy. “Improving energy efficiency, addressing conservation, and supporting alternative sources of power are important for growing Connecticut’s clean energy economy and reducing costs for residents, businesses, and government.”

A Norwalk shopping plaza is installing energy efficient lighting solutions after it received financing through C-PACE. Once the lighting upgrade is complete, city officials expect the plaza to cut annual energy costs by $17,500, the governor’s office reported.
Malloy hopes the program will encourage businesses throughout the city of Norwalk and the rest of Connecticut to save money with environmentally friendly upgrades. The state expects an additional 12 cities and towns in Connecticut to adopt the program over the next several months and move forward with new energy efficient installations.
For businesses who want to work toward reducing energy costs, light-emitting diodes (LEDs) are an option. LEDs use less energy than traditional incandescent light bulbs and have a longer lifespan. Since less energy is used with LEDs, energy costs can be significantly lowered. The longer lifespan also helps reduce maintenance costs because LEDs do not need changed as frequently.
