In an effort to increase energy efficiency, the city of Napa, Calif., wants to deploy a new, large-scale installation of light-emitting diode (LED) streetlights. New Streetlights reported on the project and said the city previously installed approximately 300 LED streetlights through a pilot program, and it’s success to save on energy and costs, is encouraging Napa city officials to approve a complete overhaul of its streetlights.

By upgrading to more efficient lighting solutions, the company can save on its energy costs and receive approximately $488,000 in rebates
Xcel Energy saves with energy efficiency
Xcel Energy surpassed energy savings goals set by the Colorado Public Utilities Commission (PUC). According to Fierce Energy, the company exceeded its savings goal by 22% as part of its 2012 energy efficiency program. As a result of the energy savings goals, customers saved 401 million kilowatt hours – a record for the company. Xcel has surpassed PUC savings goals every year since 2009
Indiana University launches fund’s first project
Indiana University announced the Student Sustainability Council’s first University Lighting upgrades project funded by its Sustainability Fund, which was created from student donations. Motion-sensing, energy efficient lighting in one of the campus’ stairwells will be installed, the university said. Ballantine Hall will receive the lighting upgrades in an effort to promote campus-wide energy efficiency through the student fund.
